Public Works and Government Services Canada

Our Vision: to excel in government operations.

Our Mission: to deliver high-quality services and programs that meet the needs of federal organizations and ensure sound stewardship on behalf of Canadians.

Public Works and Government Services Canada plays a critical role not just in government, but in the Canadian economy and Canadian society.

We are 12,300 employees across the country with five regional offices serving communities from coast to coast, managing an overall budget of $4.9 billion annually.

Our responsibilities are considerable…

Our importance is undeniable…

Our impact is extraordinary.

  • We are the largest owner and manager of office space in the country, providing safe, healthy and productive working environments for federal employees across Canada.

  • We deliver the common Information Technology infrastructure to the government so it can better serve Canadians.

  • We are the central purchaser for the Government of Canada, buying some $12 billion in goods and services each year. That’s more than any other public organization in the country.

  • We deliver linguistic services for departments and agencies, including translation, interpretation and terminology services.

  • We help the government communicate with Canadians through tools like the Canada Gazette and the Canada Pavilion, and through our role as the government's official publisher.

  • We provide consulting services to improve public sector management and operations.

  • We are Canada's largest payroll and pension administrator, handling compensation for more than 600,000 government pay and pensioner accounts.

  • We make and accept all payments on behalf of the government, handling more than $1.5 trillion in cash flow each year.

  • We manage a variety of other programs and services like leading the greening of government operations across government, in addition to our own corporate functions such as finance, human resources, policy development and communications.

  • We are experts in a wide variety of fields, from professional purchasers to translators, to accountants, from engineers to IT specialists, just to name a few. Our people are our greatest asset.

Our fundamental values of respect, integrity, excellence and leadership guide the way we help our government, our people, our communities.

We are PWGSC.
