CGSB Celebrates 75 Years

By James Carleton, Planning and Information Officer,
Strategic Standardization Division

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB), as part of the federal department of Public Works and Government Services Canada, has a long tradition of silent service. Few Canadians know about the CGSB, since it rarely endorses products and never engages in lobbying or eye-catching multimedia advertising. Yet for 75 years this dedicated organization has supported government, industry and consumers by offering a wide range of standardization products and services as a member of the Canadian National Standards System.

In June 2009 the CGSB will celebrate its 75th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the CGSB has planned a series of events and activities. The first activity took place last year when its employees were invited to share their talents by creating an anniversary graphic design. Many staff members submitted their ideas for the anniversary graphic design contest. Senior management and IT personnel from the CGSB judged the submissions from over 20 entrants in early December and chose the one that best represented the CGSB. Congratulations to Monique Grabowski for her winning submission. This graphic design will be used on selected CGSB documentation throughout the anniversary year.

Other events will be taking place throughout 2009, and we invite everyone to watch our Web site for announcements of these events.

Also, we are compiling a list of former CGSB employees for our historical records. Former employees who wish to be kept informed of our events and activities to celebrate this anniversary are encouraged to provide their current contact information to Monique Soulière at the e mail address below:

Please join us in celebrating our 75 years of dedication and contributions to serving Canadians.
