PWGSC Services
By providing innovative common services to the Government of Canada (GC), PWGSC helps departments and agencies focus on what they do best—serving Canadians.
We provide vital services such as pay and pension administration, procurement, accommodations, banking and translation.
PWGSC is committed to delivering these services smarter, faster and at a reduced cost—improving how the government does business and saving taxpayer dollars.
On September 24, 2012, PWGSC introduced the second annual edition of Our Services, Standards and Results 2012-2013—just one of many PWGSC initiatives that can be found on the Client Service website.
Buying and Selling
PWGSC facilitates open, fair and transparent procurement services to the government at best value, worth approximately $14 billion annually through some 60,000 procurement-related transactions. Having learned from past experience, and through our dedication to continuous improvement, we have ensured procurement is conducted fairly and effectively for the benefit of Canadians. PWGSC plays a stewardship role in protecting the values of openness, transparency and integrity in the procurement system. When we procure goods and services on behalf of departments and agencies, we make sure that the right practices are used, and that fairness is monitored, so that, in the end, the best value for Canadians is attained.
Payments and Pensions
PWGSC's Compensation sector is Canada's largest payroll and pension administrator and our objective is to enhance and improve compensation services for federal departments, agencies, and public service pensioners; to add value and to make the best possible use of taxpayers' money.
In support of the Receiver General for Canada, PWGSC is responsible for government-wide central accounting and preparing the Public Accounts of Canada to keep Canadians informed of how the government's financial resources are managed.
Property and Buildings
PWGSC is the largest owner and manager of office space in all of Canada. We manage government real property holdings and provide safe, healthy and productive working environments for federal employees in locations all across Canada.
We also offer a range of professional and technical real property services.
Parliament Hill is home to Canada's federal legislature and is an iconic symbol of our country's commitment to democracy and peace.
Security, Corporate and Information Services
PWGSC also fulfills public, domestic and national security obligations and priorities through the Industrial Security Program. The Industrial Security Program safeguards sensitive government assets and controlled goods while in the custody of the private sector, screens private sector organizations and their employees, and assesses the security of foreign visitors and temporary workers.
Through Government Information Services (GIS), PWGSC ensures that the public has access to government information in a variety of formats. We are also the official publisher of Government of Canada Publications and PWGSC publishes the Canada Gazette, the GC's official newspaper, providing Canadians with official notice of new laws and proposed regulations. In addition, PWGSC co-ordinates advertising and public opinion research to improve the effectiveness of government communications.
PWGSC continues to work with its partner departments in researching and developing policies, strategies and guidance to reduce the environmental footprint of federal government operations.
Translation, Interpretation and Other Linguistic Services
We provide translation, interpretation, terminology and linguistic services in both of Canada's official languages, as well as in over 100 other languages, including many Aboriginal languages.
We produce bilingual glossaries and electronic terminology products, such as TERMIUM Plus®—the Government of Canada's linguistic databank.
