The Language Portal of Canada: a wealth of resources for Internet users

Everyone now has access to a new Government of Canada Web site—the Language Portal at ourlanguages.gc.ca.

This site serves as a single access point to such valuable resources as:

• TERMIUM PLUS^®, the government’s terminology and linguistic data bank;
• The Canadian Style and Le guide du rédacteur—the Government of Canada’s extensive guidelines on English and French language usage, and
• Canada’s first national collection of online language resources.

The Language Portal offers everything you need to study, work and communicate more effectively in English and French. Spelling, grammar, writing tips, translation … it’s all there.

If you’re wondering how to translate a word …

• You can quickly search nearly four million terms in TERMIUM PLUS^®.

If you’re writing a paper for a course …

• The Canadian Style offers guidance on proper Canadian spelling, usage, geographical names, etc.

If you’re pondering a grammar question …

• You might find the answer in the Portal’s Writing Tips.

If you’re fond of word quizzes …

• Try the Flash Quiz on the Portal’s homepage. You’ll find a new language question every time you visit the site!
