Features:
St. Andrews lock and Dam (SALD) - Working with Nature

Information concerning water levels in the Red River basin is obtained from many sources, particularly the Manitoba Water Resources Flood Forecaster. The moveable dam is installed and the curtains are rolled up or rolled down depending on water levels, water velocity and flow predictions. A working fish ladder, incorporated into the east side of the dam, allows the many species of fish to migrate around the structure. During summer flood periods part or all of the dam is removed as nature dictates. The drainage basin affecting the operations at SALD covers an area of nearly 260,000 square kilometres. It extends into the United States and to the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border.
