SUBJECT: Ministers' Exempt Staff

1. PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this directive is to advise you of the revised maximum rates of pay for the Special Assistant (MSSPA - 72002), Private Secretary to a Minister or a Secretary of State (MSPRS - 72003), General Assistant (MSGSA - 72009) and Senior Special Assistant or Executive Assistant to a Secretary of State (MSSSA - 72010) within the Ministers' Exempt Staff category.

2. POLICY

2.1 Treasury Board has approved a change to the maximum rates of pay effective December 13, 1997, to certain sub-groups in the Ministers' Exempt Staff category (Bargaining Unit Designator (BUD) code 720) as listed below. This approval was received December 1, 1997, and the new rates were updated to the Pay Rates Control file effective December 16, 1997.

2.2 The new maximum annual rates of pay applicable to the above mentioned sub-groups are as follows:

  • MSSPA 00 (72002) $ 75,002.00
  • MSPRS 02 (72003) $ 42,486.00
  • MSPRS 03 (72003) $ 45,769.00
  • MSGSA 01 (72009) $ 56,821.00
  • MSSSA 00 (72010) $ 84,000.00

3. PROCEDURES

3.1 The revised maximum rates of pay will be included in the updated version 464 of the Pay Rate Control File scheduled for production on December 16, 1997. As of this date, client departments may submit pay input reflecting the new rates of pay.
