Government of Canada Pension Modernization Project (GCPMP)

What is it?

The GCPMP was initiated to renew Public Works and Government Services Canada's ( PWGSC ) pension services, systems and business processes to be able to ensure the sustainability of PWGSC's pension administration through the replacement of outdated systems, and continue to fulfill PWGSC's mandate to provide modern industry standard services to employees and pensioners.

Why modernize?

The capability of existing systems and business processes is insufficient to meet increasing client demands for greater flexibility and functionality. The current systems and business processes severely limit PWGSC's ability to:

  • adapt to new technologies and business practices;
  • increase services to employees and pensioners;
  • migrate to web-based and on-line delivery models mandated by government-wide initiatives such as Government On-line (GOL), e- HR and Shared Services.

Delivering on PWGSC's commitment to providing value-added services to its clients requires greater client focus, more flexibility and variety in service options, and enhanced access to information including:

  • self-service and on-line options;
  • operational efficiency (automation, simplified processes, management controls); and
  • seamless information flow.

Objectives

  • Client focus and providing members with flexible self-service
    • Automated and simplified administrative processes
    • Implementation of "industry standard" services used by industry leaders
  • Self-Service and on-line options for employers
    • Access to common inquiries and transactions through Web, on-line, and self-service options

    • Information management and access tools enabling pension experts to provide accurate, consistent, and timely services
  • Operational efficiency
    • Automation, simplified processes, management controls
    • Automated data collection, remittance tools and processes
    • Common data and tools repository
    • Real time processing of events (transactions)
  • Re-engineer and streamline business processes to improve effectiveness and provide a seamless information flow
  • Sustainable systems and modern working tools to improve PWGSC operations
