Deductions

The process of deductions includes starting, stopping or amending deductions.

This process is triggered either by the notification of a new employee or new appointment or an employee decision to change their voluntary deductions.

Mandatory deductions are processed automatically by Phoenix.

Tax deductions

Tax related deductions refer to the standard tax deductions from an employee’s pay and may include the following:

General deductions

General deductions include both mandatory deductions (union dues if applicable) and voluntary deductions. Some examples include the following:

If an employee wishes to object to the automatic deduction of union dues on the grounds of conscience.

Send the following form to the departmental human resources officer:

Complete and submit the relevant forms to the Pay Centre: Mail facility by encrypted email, fax or mail, including a pay action request form PSPC 446-5E duly completed

Note:  Some departments may have a different process and the employee should check with their human resources department before completing the form.

General deductions: Union dues

Issue cheques to unions when requisitioned by the Pay Centre for dues payable within 30 days.

Note:  The amount will be recovered from the employee until amount is paid in full. Please refer to overpayment event for details.

Other voluntary deductions: Subsidized Parking

Partial Reimbursement (employer paid portion: 50%).

Provide the information (parking receipt) through a trusted source to the Pay Centre: Mail facility by encrypted email, fax or mail, including a pay action request form PSPC 446-5E duly completed.

Upon receipt of tax forms ensure that signatures on paper requests transmitted from a departments to Pay Centre are authenticated, for example:

Note:  Paper requests submitted directly by employees to Pay Centre, without any departmental signatory requirements are excluded from the trusted source scope.
