Public Services and Procurement Canada has learned that a collection agency has been calling employees, falsely claiming to work on behalf of the Phoenix team to recover employee overpayments.
Overpayment recovery
The Government of Canada is not using a collection agency to recover overpayments. We will recover overpayments directly from employees’ pay. If you wish to repay an overpayment, contact the Client Contact Centre to make arrangements.
Report fraud
If you receive a suspicious call from a collection agency, do not provide personal information such as your address, credit card or bank account number. Do not make repayment arrangements with any collection agency. If an agency contacts you with such a request, report it to:
- the local police
- Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre
- your departmental security officer, who will advise you on how to protect your personal information
