National Shipbuilding Strategy: 2017 annual report

The National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) is Canada’s 30-year plan to renew the fleets of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard. The primary objectives of the Strategy are to equip the fleets of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard in a timely and affordable manner, build a sustainable marine sector in Canada and maximize economic benefits for Canada, including job creation.

This report provides an update on the National Shipbuilding Strategy from January 1 to December 31, 2017, providing details on the progress of NSS projects, as well as data regarding new contracts and contract amendments signed during 2017. It also addresses some of the key challenges faced by the Strategy to date, and mitigating measures being put in place to address those challenges.
