Hi my name is Gabrielle Jarawan, I’m a deputy project manager on the site works team within the Centre Block Program at PSPC.

I found myself ending up in civil engineering just because it was the one field of engineering where it was the most open.

It touches a bit on everything. I could do some buildings, I could do roads, highways, environmental, underground utilities.

It’s such a vast subject that I have the possibility and the choice of choosing where I want to go.

There’s never a day that’s exactly like the other.

Something is always popping up, something is always different.
[Panning shot of a group of women smiling. Gabrielle is in the centre.]
There’s always something that happens, you just have to deal with it. My first advice would be to go for it. My second advice is to not be intimidated by the fact that this is a male dominated industry.

It’s slowly changing, we just need more women and girls to come into the field.

Even though you might feel intimidated being there initially, remember that you deserve to be there and you have worked hard to be there just the same as everybody else around you.
