Government of Canada receives first shipments of pediatric vaccine doses

November 23, 2021

Throughout the pandemic, the Government of Canada has worked closely with vaccine manufacturers to negotiate the delivery of vaccines to Canada as quickly as possible.

Following Health Canada authorization of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty for children aged 5 to 11, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, announced on November 19, 2021, that Canada will receive 2.9 million of these pediatric doses this week.

This means that in days, Canada will have enough doses to provide every eligible child with a first dose, marking an important step toward providing additional protection for our young Canadians.

As it has done throughout the roll-out of vaccines, the Government of Canada will work closely with provinces and territories to distribute doses across the country on an urgent basis. We are also working closely with Pfizer to ensure second doses are delivered at the appropriate time.

The government will also continue to closely monitor the evolution of COVID-19 vaccines and work with vaccine suppliers to access new formulations as quickly as possible, so we can finish the fight against COVID-19.
