Update on contracts with Supermax Healthcare Canada

January 25, 2022

As announced on November 10, 2021, the Government of Canada had put on hold deliveries of nitrile gloves from Supermax Healthcare Canada, following allegations of forced labour practices against its partner and supplier Supermax Corp., of Malaysia, and pending results of an independent audit.

In December 2021, Supermax Healthcare Canada provided the Government of Canada with preliminary information shared by its partner and supplier Supermax Corp., which is currently undergoing the audit process at its Malaysian facility. Supermax Corp. also indicated that the final results of the audit will be ready in spring 2022.

Based on the seriousness of the allegations and expected timelines for the final audit results, the Government of Canada and Supermax Healthcare Canada have decided to terminate the two existing contracts for the supply of nitrile gloves. This decision is strictly for these two contracts. Supermax Healthcare Canada is still eligible to participate in future Government of Canada public tenders if the company meets the terms and conditions of the tenders.

The Government of Canada has sufficient quantities of nitrile gloves to fulfill current requirements set out by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
