Stellar Travel Achieves Stellar Results
Stellar Travel Inc. submitted four proposals for business opportunities with the Government of Canada and was awarded over $150,000 in contracts. This exciting and inspirational story begins with a visit to the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) – Ontario Region.
In June 2011, two senior officials from Stellar Travel attended the in-house supplier seminars Understanding the Process – the Fundamentals and Bidding on Opportunities, offered at the OSME Ontario Region office. Equipped with the new insight on doing business with the federal government, they submitted several proposals. Their efforts were rewarded with a $105,702 contract for hotel accommodation for the Department of National Defence during the Canadian National Exhibition. Soon after, they were awarded a second contract with DND valued at $47,000.
Stellar Travel hopes to access other opportunities across the country using the knowledge they gained from the OSME seminars and the buyandsell.gc.ca website. They plan to “fine tune” the company’s profile on MERX and focus their marketing to appropriate government procurement channels. The company is confident that this experience puts them in “a better position for writing and submitting proposals in the years ahead”. Officials from the company also requested a debriefing on their unsuccessful bids, which provided “…a great opportunity and knowledge needed to continue to be successful in the future.”
Regarding their experience with the OSME Ontario Region, the two officials share the following feedback: “We found your staff extremely accommodating, knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. We enjoy how you partner with other business organizations and departments to assist all of us small to medium size companies to network and learn about being successful in the areas of procurement business. We look forward to attending your events and rejoining the seminars.”
Their experience with buyandsell.gc.ca, the online portal for business resources related to federal procurement, was also positive. One of the officials said, “The website is a fantastic resource” and the company has found a lot of useful information and resources by visiting the site.
