Pay Bulletin: January 2017
The objective of the Pay Bulletin is to provide information that is specific, timely and relevant to employees.
In the spotlight: Overpayments and tax season
If you have received an overpayment in 2017, you must contact the Pay Services Client Contact Centre at 1‑855‑686‑4729 (if your department is serviced by the Pay Centre) or a compensation advisor (if your department is not serviced by the Pay Centre) by January 19, 2018.
You must do this even if you have previously identified to your manager or department that you have received an overpayment. If your 2017 overpayment is registered at the Pay Services Client Contact Centre before January 19, 2018, every effort will be made to ensure that you will only have to repay the net overpayment rather than the gross, which includes any deductions that were withheld (such as income tax, Canada Pension Plan or Employment Insurance).
Reporting an overpayment also ensures the accuracy of the T4 or Relevé 1 tax slip used for filing your tax return.
The Pay Services Client Contact Centre is currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes. If you are having difficulty reaching the Pay Services Client Contact Centre and you need to report an overpayment, you can also submit a Phoenix feedback form to inform the Pay Centre of your situation.
Pay Centre and departmental compensation advisors are working hard to process overpayments. If your overpayment is not registered by the end of January, you will be asked to repay the gross amount. However, you will not be required to make any repayments until at least July 2018, after your tax account has been credited with an amount equal to the difference between the net and gross overpayment. A range of flexible repayment options will be available.
