Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wants to do everything it can to make sure students are paid on time and accurately.
Again this year, we have established a dedicated group of compensation advisors to handle student files at the Pay Centre. This process builds on the successes of last year.
Typically, staffing requests for student hiring should be submitted well in advance of the planned start date to the Pay Centre, or for those organizations not serviced by the Pay Centre, to your compensation unit. Human resources will provide managers with a letter of offer and pay-related forms. As much as possible, students should sign, complete and submit these documents at least three weeks ahead of their start date in order to onboard successfully. The 2017 student rates of pay continue to be in effect. In cases where the provincial or territorial minimum wage amount is higher than the maximum offered for the corresponding academic level of the student, rates can be adjusted upwards to compensate.
Departments and agencies will be provided with additional guidance in advance of the summer student hiring to ensure that students are paid on time and accurately.
Stay tuned for more information coming in the following weeks!
