Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet

Dear Mr. Wernick:

Thank you for your correspondence of November 2, 2017, regarding the challenges posed by the pay system.

We agree that this requires a collective effort. At the Public Service Commission (PSC), we have taken several steps in order to improve the overall situation in our department. In the attached document, you will find a list of practical actions that we have taken so far, as well as actions that we plan to take in the future.

The transition to the central pay system has also created challenges with respect to availability and overall reliability of recruitment and internal mobility data in the Public Service. This affects our ability to produce timely and accurate reports on staffing. We are working closely with our partners to develop solutions.

You can continue to count on the PSC’s full cooperation in the collective effort towards a sustainable pay system. We look forward to hearing about future initiatives.

Sincerely,

Patrick Borbey
President
