The number of financial transactions beyond the normal workload has remained the same, from June 23 to July 21, 2021.

Reductions will, at times, be followed by slower progress or even increases. Since its peak in January 2018, the number of financial transactions beyond the normal workload has decreased by 280,000, from 384,000 to 104,000.

While the exact number fluctuates daily, it is estimated that almost half of public servants are experiencing some form of pay issue (including those served by the Pay Centre as well as non-Pay Centre departments). There are currently approximately 275,000 transactions ready to be processed at the Pay Centre, including:

  • 184,000 transactions with financial impact, which include:
    • 104,000 beyond our normal workload, and
    • 80,000 that are part of our normal workload
  • 48,000 transactions with no financial impact, or general inquiries
  • 11,000 collective agreement transactions
  • 32,000 transactions waiting to be closed for which employees have already received payment

Between June 23 and July 21, 83% of non-collective bargaining transactions met service standards.

Public Services and Procurement Canada prioritizes cases that can have a large impact on an employees pay. For example, in 2020, parental and disability leaves were processed within service standards 99% of the time on average.
