What do we buy

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) is to establish an NMSO for government departments, agencies, Crown corporations, and organizations participating in the Canadian Collaborative Procurement Initiative (CCPI).

This procurement tool is used for the supply, delivery, and offloading of compostable single use (takeout) wares and utensils to kitchens and ships.

• Compostable single use service ware
  • General:

    Products must be certified as compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) or an equivalent third party certification

  • Configuration:
    • Plates available in sizes:
      • 6" (side plate)
      • 10" (any entree)
    • Bowls available in sizes with lids:
      • 8oz
    • Hot and cold beverage cups available in size:
      • 8oz with lid
  • Material and construction:

    Products must hold hot viscous product for up to 2 hours. Products must still meet the CAN/BNQ 0017-088 standard for industrial composting. Products can be heated in a microwave

• Compostable single use utensils
  • General:

    Products must be certified as compostable by the BPI, the BNQ or an equivalent third party certification

  • Configuration:
    • Forks available in sizes:
      • 7 ¼" (dinner fork)
      • 8" (dinner spork)
    • Spoons available in sizes:
      • 7" (soup spoon)
    • Knives available in sizes:
      • 9 ¼" (serrated dinner knife)
    • Compostable cutlery kit (4 pc) including napkins
  • Material and construction

    Products must meet the CAN/BNQ 0017-088 standard for industrial composting.

• Compostable single use packaging
  • General:

    Products must be certified as compostable by the BPI, the BNQ or an equivalent third party certification

  • Configuration
    • Clamshell with tri-compartment 23cm x 15cm
    • Clamshell with tri-compartment 15cm x 15cm
  • Material and construction:

    Products must meet the CAN/BNQ 0017-088 standard for industrial composting, they must:

    • be grease resistant
    • have ability for reheat in microwave
    • be freezable
    • be stackable 5 high with food inside
    • have ability to withhold temperature to a food safe zone

How do we buy

• Client departments can issue call-ups up to $40K
• The PSPC standing offer authority must issue the call-up for amounts exceeding $40K
• There will be 1 offeror per region

Enhanced competition and facilitates opportunities for small, medium and niche suppliers to do business with the Government of Canada.

Value / Savings / Considerations

As a result of the business volume, economies of scale are generated by the use of the standing offers. Canada benefits from having quick access to selection of compostable single use service ware and utensils as well as being able to use an efficient procurement method to fulfill their requirements.
